You are not alone. Almost everyone we know has inherited a loved one’s home at some point in their life.
Inheriting a home comes with a lot of unexpected responsibilities, and sometimes – undesirable burdens.
For example, you are now responsible for: taxes, insurance, and any leftover debt. You also possibly just inherited a house full of loving memories, memorabilia, and “keepsakes.”
Fortunately, at Bright Side Homes, we’ve worked with a lot of people in the same situation and this is an area we really love to serve others in.
And here are your options to consider…
Move In — If the home is in good condition and you like the area, then you might consider moving in. Obviously, this won’t work if you have obligations elsewhere, but it’s certainly an option for people who don’t have deep roots in the place they’re already living.
Rent The Property — If you don’t want to live in the home but you also don’t want to sell it, then you might consider renting out the property. The biggest obstacle here will be finding tenants that you can trust to respect the home. If you have a lot of emotional connection to the home, then putting it in the hands of tenants might not be a good idea.
Sell With an Agent — If the home is in excellent condition and you’re willing to repair what’s broken and update what’s outdated, then you might consider selling the home the traditional way, with a real estate agent. If it needs a lot of maintenance or large mechanical systems replaced, this probably isn’t the best choice as you’ll end up paying for those updates out of pocket.
Sell To a Professional Home Buyer — This is where we can come in. Since you probably have a lot of equity on the home and it also has a lot of sentimental value (making it hard to rent out), you might consider selling to a professional home buyer like ourselves over at Bright Side Homes —
